چکیده

The Sør Rondane Mountains, East Antarctica have been thought to be situated in the collision zone between and West Gondwana during final stage of amalgamation supercontinent. They are therefore recognized as a key region for understanding geological phenomena collisions testing proposed tectonic models. We identified metamorphic rocks with different pressure–temperature–time paths that bounded by ductile shear at Oyayubi ridge, Brattnipene, Mountains. Based on field microscopic observations, chemical analyses minerals, zircon U–Pb dating, sillimanite–garnet–biotite gneisses (i.e., pelitic gneisses) from higher structural level show peak metamorphism ca. 590 Ma took place under conditions 830–840 °C 0.8–0.9 GPa, these high-temperature lasted until 550 Ma. These underwent isothermal decompression then retrograde hydration lower pressure–temperature than 530 0.4 GPa In contrast, orthogneisses consist hornblende–biotite gneiss garnet–clinopyroxene levels did not undergo 600 Ma, but 570 reached 700–760 0.6–0.9 560–550 observations suggest thrusting over orthogneiss 570–550 causing prograde well uplift subsequent rapid denudation. results indicate two stages bounds units may part continental plate boundary

Diversity of Phototrophic Genes Suggests Multiple Bacteria May Be Able to Exploit Sunlight in Exposed Soils from the Sør Rondane Mountains, East Antarctica

Microbial life in exposed terrestrial surface layers in continental Antarctica is faced with extreme environmental conditions, including scarcity of organic matter. Bacteria in these exposed settings can therefore be expected to use alternative energy sources such as solar energy, abundant during the austral summer. Using Illumina MiSeq sequencing, we assessed the diversity and abundance of fou...

Eclogite-facies metamorphism preserved in tectonic blocks from a lower crustal shear zone, central Transantarctic Mountains, Antarctica

In the Geologists and Miller Ranges of the central Transantarctic Mountains, mafic and ultramalic tectonic blocks occur in an Early Cambrian amphiboliteto granulite-facies lower crustal transpressional shear zone. Mafic blocks consist of garnet + clinopyroxene symplectite + hornblende + plagioclase + quartz + ilmenite f orthopyroxene f biotite;mineral compositions in these blocks generally refl...

Stratigraphy and paleogeographic significance of metamorphic rocks in the Shadow Mountains, western Mojave Desert, California

Stratigraphic correlations presented here for the ductilely deformed and metamorphosed rocks exposed in the Shadow Mountains indicate that they formed on the North American continental margin and are not exotic or significantly displaced from their site of origin. These strata represent a depositional history that spans Late Proterozoic and Paleozoic passive margin development, late Paleozoic t...

Origin and tectonic evolution ofthe metamorphic sole beneath the Brooks Range ophiolite, Alaska

Structural field relations, petrologic and geochemical studies, and radiometric age aualysis of metamorphic rocks at the base of the Brooks Range ophiolite provide a record of the time, tectonic setting, and initial conditions of ophiolite emplacement during the Middle Jurassic western Brookian orogeny. The metamorphic sole of the Misheguk, Siniktanneyak, and Avan Hills ophiolite bodies is tran...

The Phyllosilicates in Diagenetic-metamorphic Rocks of the South Portuguese Zone, Southwestern Portugal

Devonian and Carboniferous metasedimentary sequences in the southernmost sector of the Iberian Massif, part of the Hercynian Orogen in southwestern Portugal, contain shales and slates of low but variable metamorphic grade. These rocks have been studied by optical microscopy and XRD to obtain basic data on their clay mineralogy and crystal-chemical parameters (IC, the index of “crystallinity”, b...
